The Home Where I Grew Up
Rockin’ chair rockin’ on an old front porch
Cool blue water out my back door.
Pink skies makin’ my young heart soar
Sweet old place that I now long for.
Cherry wood cracklin’ in the fireplace
Bedroom windows all covered in lace.
Big old smile on my Grandpa’s face
Feelings that I just can’t erase.
Soft down pillow where my head did lay
Never understood why I couldn’t stay.
Swear I’m gonna go back someday
To the home where I grew up.
Mama callin’ me through the kitchen door
Papa in socks on a pine wood floor.
Old hound dog always beggin’ for more
Music always playin’ that I adore.
Warm summer nights dreamin’ on the lake
Sweeping Fall leaves with a crooked rake.
Winter’s come early but I stay up late
Spring flowers bloom and the world awakes.
Soft down pillow where my head did lay
Can’t recall why I went away.
Swear I’m gonna go back someday
To the home where I grew up.
Floor creakin’ loud under my bare feet
Brother’s readin’ books on a windowseat.
Grandma’s in the kitchen makin’ us a treat
Apple pie bakin’ and the house smells sweet.
Pine tree branches on my bedroom wall
Mournful loon lets out a sad bird call.
Leaves turnin’ colors and it smells like Fall
Too young to know that I had it all.
Soft down pillow where my head did lay
Never understood why I couldn’t stay.
Swear I’m gonna go back someday
To the home where I grew up.
Old torn photo of my Daddy and me
I’m sittin’ on his knee by the Christmas tree.
Singin’ to records and old LP’s
Hangin’ in my bedroom where I can see.
Childhood dreams callin’ back to me
Voices from rooms where I want to be.
Walkin’ through halls in my memory
Only place this little girl was happy.
Singin’ my songs every day
Can’t believe how long I’ve been away
Swear I’m gonna go back someday.
Soft down pillow where my head did lay
Never understood why I couldn’t stay.
Swear I’m gonna go back someday
To the home where I grew up.
The home where I grew up.
The home where I grew up.
